PPP and KEHRC joins hand to fight against blindness : |
Lack of effective health care, proper educations, awareness, lack of ophthalmic service, uneasy conveniences are the major problems of the area of the Jajpur and Dhenkanal District. Health care was one of the biggest problems here. After NYSASDRI's PPP project has been commenced, slowly but steadily the health care system is slowly but steadily changing. Even then the eye care still remains the issue as under the current project nothing much can be achieved. However NYSASDRI in order to upkeep its commitment to provide eye care to the most under privileged in the society has added ophthalmic services to the PPP kitty. . Addition of ophthalmic in PPP module is another benefit for those people, which are depriving from ophthalmic services, like unreached, poverty stricken, old age, people struggling their life for avoidable blindness due to cataract. These people can be recognized and sent them for cataract extraction at KEH, after surgery, they will get back to their site, and will see the world better. . By this type of education to the community, the community will get an awareness about eye care, which will help them to see better & can improve their quality of life. This will satisfy the objective of KEH & Vision 2020. |
For Child Eye Care :
|
Every minute a child goes blind in this world, so can you imagine the number of blind children are there in our society? Only 10% of the blind children able to survive in this world and rest even could able to cross 5 years of their life in blindness. We know the child are the future of our nation but if children will goes blind in the same ratio as now then the future of our nation is in DARK.
That why KEHRC has started different activities to eradicate the childhood blindness and making a brighter India. These activities includes providing training to the school teacher, Anganwadi workers, village volunteers & SHG members on identifying the ocular problem of any persons in their locality. Also includes School Screening program, child eye camps etc. After identifying these pediatric cases, KEH is providing them the necessary clinical treatments as well as free spectacles to the poor & needy children. |
Capacity Building of Rural Service Personnel :
|
In the state of Orissa, status of pediatric eye care services is poorer than adult eye care. Pediatric eye care requires specific expertise, equipment and training . Major barriers to childhood cataract surgery in Orissa are absence of adequate trained pediatric eye care personnel and anesthetists, lack of high volume cataract surgical setup where pediatric eye care facility can be developed, lack of awareness and skill to detect congenital
cataract in children and absence of outreach services to identify and treat children with cataract and refractive error. Prevalence of refractive error (visual acuity <6/9) among children could be as high as 5% according to an estimate made by the Government of India. Refractive error in children, if untreated, almost always leads to poor academic performance and results in students dropping out of their education system. Refractive
error in children can easily be corrected by providing a pair of spectacles. So KEHRC has taken the initiative to identify each & every children with ocular problem & then its treatment, but to find out the children even from the rural unreached areas, KEHRC has started providing training to the Anganwadi Workers, village Volunteers & School Teachers. |

|
