NYSASTRI is associated with the international not for profit volunteer organization Unite For Sight. As both organizations work towards restoring the sight of the poor, this partnership is a natural fit. Volunteer teams from Unite For Sight come to the Kalinga eye hospital where they work in the hospital as well as at outreach camps. The volunteers work hard and provide help where needed. In return they gain experience in the field of developmental health. For each volunteer accepted at the KEHRC, Unite for Sight donates 1000$ and 300 pairs of glasses. These resources go towards healthcare of the poor. This partnership has proved immensely beneficial to the both the volunteers and the hospital. The volunteers leave with a unique experience and inspiration while the KEHRC is empowered to perform more surgeries and provide care to more in need.

Volunteers also come to Orissa to work with us from different NGOs and on their own accord. Often people find this method preferable as they are able to circumvent an often constraining beurocracy. If you would like to volunteer at our hospital please feel free to contact us directly to set up a volunteership.
KEHRC takes it a proud privilege to be associated with Jennifer Staple and her missionary organisation Unite For Sight (UFS) and as a part of the understanding between the two KEHRC provides opportunity to the volunteers of UFS to show case the spirit of volunteerism and simultaneously learn from the field exposures.
In return the volunteers also devote their time, labour as well as eye glass for poor patients having low refraction. For every volunteer who come to India, UFS supports $ 1000 to KEHRC. This additional fund generated by KEHRC helps itself to perform additional no. of surgeries and come to aid of the people.
The eye clinic's eye doctors and Unite For Sight volunteers jointly participate on community based screening programs and camps. NYSASDRI's eye doctors diagnose and treat eye disease in the field, and surgical patients are brought to the eye clinic for surgery. Unite For Sight funds the surgeries for those patients unable to afford eye care. This partnership between Unite For Sight volunteers and KEHRC enables sustainable programs while simultaneously reducing the barriers to health care, including financial, transportation, cultural, and education hindrances. Unite For Sight's model also reduces costs and expands the ability of all people to "Unite For Sight" and help in the fight against blindness.
UFS has been already generous enough to sponsor more than 621 surgeries since Oct 2005. We are also thankful to UFS that it is also proffering 400 more surgeries during the month of Nov-Dec 06 at the cost of 10 $ per surgery. KEHRC believes this support rendered by UFS will go a long way in creating a vision enabling environment for the people with vision disability. Apart from this UFS is also wishing to send more no of volunteers to help them getting exposed to the eye care issues and services in Orissa.
